IPAR-Rwanda with funding from the Partnership for Social and Governance Research(PASGR) based in Nairobi, Kenya, continues to implement a project on “Rwanda Urban Governance Utafiti Sera House Forum Series” with the aim of promoting urbanization in the six secondary cities in Rwanda.
The three-year project currently in its final year, entails a series of stakeholders’ forums that focus on urban governance in the secondary cities of Huye, Musanze, Rubavu, Muhanga, Rusizi, and Nyagatare. The six cities have been prioritized by the government as growth poles to complement the capital city Kigali. This is expected to spread development in all parts of the country thus boosting national economic development as planned in the national strategy for transformation (NST1) and Vision 2050 blue print.
The lively forums bring together what is referred as a “house” which is composed of key stakeholders such as the Central and Local Government representatives, development partners, Non-Governmental Organizations, Private Sector, Professional bodies such as the institutes of engineers, architects and others as well as researchers and academicians.
So far, two forums out of five have been held covering the Cities of Musanze and Huye. IPAR-Rwanda is planning the third and fourth forums which will take place in Musanze and Huye Cities respectively.
